Frequently Asked Questions
IPL works thanks to a pigment present in the hair called melanin. Just as a dark surface absorbs more heat on a hot day, melanin helps the hair absorb the light emitted by the device's flashes.
This light stimulates the hair to enter its resting phase, interrupting its growth cycle. The result is smoother skin, progressively free of hair.
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) hair removal devices use this technology to break the hair growth cycle and help reduce its re-appearance over time.
Most customers notice a reduction in hair growth after just 3-4 uses, and full results after 12 uses. If you find that your hair has stopped growing, you don't need to complete all 12 sessions. You can move on to the maintenance phase.
For best results right from the start, it is ideal to use IPL every two weeks for the first four or five sessions. After that, short touch-up sessions once a month, or once every 2 months, will suffice.
After the initial phase, you can continue treatments according to your needs. After all, everyone is different and, as such, may need maintenance treatments at different frequencies, which is perfectly normal.
The IPL hair removal process can cause some discomfort but is generally well-tolerated by most people. The sensation is often described as a slight prickle or a small snap, similar to a rubber band hitting the skin.
In full transparency, no hair removal method can be classified as “permanent”. IPL is considered semi-permanent and requires maintenance treatments. Maintenance can be done once a year or even after 3 to 5 years, depending on the individual.
